Abegondo Pipe and Dance Band

The Group was formed in 2010 as part of the cultural activities offered by the town council of Abegondo, a Galician municipality next to A Coruña, in the northwest of Spain. Their members, from all ages, play a wide range of instruments that have been part of Galician folk music over the years: Galician bagpipe (Gaita de fol), different types of traditional percussion (bombo, tamboril, pandeireta), accordion, etc. The band is supplemented by a group of male and female dancers, and a choir of women singers (cantareiras). Also Saturday 6th 12pm Emmett Place & 10pm St Finbarr’s, Sunday 7th at 3pm in Deerpark School.

Douglas Comhaltas

Douglas Comhaltas was formed in 1997 by a group of parents including the first Cathaoirleach, Aislinn Cogan. Craobh na Dúglaise found a wonderful home in Gaelscoil An Athar Tadhg Ó Murchú (Gaelscoil na Dúglaise) in Douglas and has attracted students from all over Cork City, it’s suburbs and beyond. The branch now employs over a dozen teachers. Recently the branch has moved to provide classes in traditional singing, which have proved very popular. Adult classes for all standards are also hugely popular. The Branch will present a concert at the CIT Cork School of Music along with Abegondo Pipe and Dance band from Galicia. The Adult Douglas Comhaltas group will also feature at the Food and Folk Event on Emmett Place on Saturday.
