As part of Irish Design Week, and in collaboration with Cork Institute of Technology, shortlisted and winning designs from Camac’s 6th Annual Wallpaper Design Competition and 2nd Textile Design Challenge travel from London to be exhibited at the award winning Architecture Factory, Cork.

The exhibition features stunning wallpapers and textiles by design and fine art students from CIT Cork, leading British colleges of art, the Design School at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen, and - for the first time - RMIT, Melbourne, Australia.

Camac Founder Caroline McNamara set a brief for students to create designs inspired by archival resources including Art Deco at the Warner Textile Archive, Braintree, Essex, the recent exhibition ‘From Picasso to Warhol’ at London’s Fashion and Textile Museum or the Museum of Domestic Design & Architecture (MODA).

Each was asked to produce an innovative and contemporary wallpaper or mixed media textile-related response that would appeal to today’s consumer.
Also on display at the exhibition in Cork, textiles works from members of Texere (Textiles Education and Research in Europe) and other invited designers.

At the London-based exhibition - part of London Design Week - at the newly refurbished Dominion Theatre eight winners from the Wallpaper Competition were given work placements with Sanderson, Zoffany, Anstey, Graham & Brown, Fine Decor, Holden Decor, CWV and Camac.

Other prizes included the opportunity for two students to have their wallpapers printed and hung by Surface Print at the Heimtextil trade show, Frankfurt, in January 2015, and two students to be awarded CSV Level 2 Training Courses and a Marketing Prize by AVA. IGI (Global Wallcoverings Association) presented awards for Best Student and Best College.

CAMAC is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation founded by Caroline McNamara -  an experienced event and exhibition organiser, graduate of The London College of Communication, University of Arts and Norwich University of the Arts, and Vice Chair of TEXERE, Textile Education and Research in Europe.

The team at CAMAC creates and delivers competitions, exhibitions, master classes and symposiums aimed at building links between colleges, their design students and professionals working in the creative industry. Designed to sit within the curriculum - or as special projects - and continually evolving in line with the needs of academic institutions across the UK and beyond, CAMAC’s work inspires individuality and experimentation, and provides invaluable opportunities for students to strengthen their personal and professional development.

Flagship event is the Annual Student Wallpaper Design Competition, now in its 6th Year. Originally aimed at 2nd year Surface Design undergraduates, it now attracts entrants from students studying textiles, fine art and ceramics from colleges across the UK and Europe, and for the first time in 2014 Australia.

Support for Camac comes from leading design and manufacturing companies and professional from across the creative industries.
