Dance Intervarsities 2014 at CIT

Cork Institute of Technology are proud to be hosting the Dance Intervarsities 2014, which takes place on Wednesday the 26th of February, at Nexus in the Student Centre, Bishopstown. It will begin at 10am sharp and finishes with an awards ceremony taking place at 6pm.

The competition will start off with the Irish category followed by hip-hop, jazz, lyrical and mixed piece. The mixed piece consists of every genre included in the competition to be on stage at once.

A total of 10 colleges from across Ireland are competing, with teams from Cork Institute of Technology, University College Cork, University of Limerick, NUI Galway, Dublin City University, University College Dublin, Trinity College Dublin, NUI Maynooth, IT Carlow and Dublin Institute of Technology, with roughly 400 people taking part in the competition.

Judging the various events are panels of well renowned dancers, teachers and performers, including Johnathan Tweedie, Lily Dunnicliffe, Jordan Darnell, Claire Hattie, Adam O’Connor and Pippa Higgs.

There are 5 categories in total, Irish, Hip-hop, Jazz, Lyrical and Mixed Piece.

The schedule is as follows:

10 am               Irish
11 am               Hip-Hop
12.30 – 1.30     Lunch
1.45 pm            Jazz
2.45 pm            Lyrical
4 pm                 Mixed
6 pm                 Awards Ceremony

An awards ceremony will take place at 6pm. There are prizes for first, second and third place in each category, and the trophy for first place will be engraved with the winning colleges name.
