CULTURE NIGHT AT MTU

Here are details of some of the Culture Night events in Cork City and County involving MTU students, staff, alumni, campusses and research spaces:

Discover the unique history and artists of MTU Crawford College of Art & Design 46 Grand Parade, explore the Equinox at Blackrock Castle Observatory, enjoy a free concert and a look behind the scenes on a tour at MTU Cork School of Music, visit graduate exhibition SEE at James Barry Exhibition Centre, and tune in online to MTU Art Collection artist profile videos.

MTU Arts Office & AnSEO Student Engagement Exhibition (SEE) Award 2022

Open - 10am – 8pm - Exhibition

SEE Award Exhibition, featuring selected recent graduates from MTU Crawford College of Art & Design. This exhibition is a great way to begin the night of creativity, and get to see the creatives of the future. MTU Arts Office will also launch the latest MTU Artists Profile Series introducing artists in the SEE Award Exhibition, and artworks acquired for the MTU Art Collection in 2022.

6pm – Online launch of video profiles

MTU Art Collection Artist Profile Videos

MTU, an arts rich university, celebrates and explores its Art Collection through a new series of insightful video profiles made with some of the artists recently added to the Collection. Established over 30 years ago, the MTU Art Collection now includes over 700 artworks, focusing on artists graduating from the MTU Crawford College of Art & Design. The series will be shared online via MTU Arts Office Facebook Page, and launches at 6pm.

MTU Blackrock Castle Observatory, Blackrock, Cork

 

7-8.30pm – Talk

The Equinox has cultural significance throughout the world and not just as a signifier of change. It has been used to inform architecture, stories and more. But what is an equinox?

In a talk to be hosted at MTU Blackrock Castle Observatory, we’ll have an expert on hand to discuss the cultural significance of the equinox as well as explaining the astronomical phenomenon behind it.

This year, MTU Crawford College of Art & Design (MTU CCAD) showcases activities by MTU alumni, students, staff and retired staff in our iconic 19th century building and MTU CCAD campus at 46 Grand Parade.

5pm – Historical Talk

Introduction to the history of the building by Brendan Goggin.

5-6pm

Creativity & Change host drop-in workshops suitable for all ages.

6pm – Artist in conversation

Donal Moloney and Kevin Mooney discuss Donal’s exhibition “Closer to it” now open in the MTU Gallery at 46 Grand Parade.

7pm – Artist Talk

Artist Nic Flannery discusses her project “Is Mise”, on view in the microGALLERY.

Exhibition Closer To It is open to view throughout the day, and in the evening until 9pm.

MTU Cork School of Music, Union Quay, Cork

 

5.30pm - Guided tour
Take a tour of Cork’s state of the art music college.

6.30pm - Performance – Curtis Auditorium
Young musicians, who will represent MTU Cork School of Music in the Irish Freemasons Young Musician of the Year Competition, will perform a concert at 6.30pm in the Curtis Auditorium.
