"Formed through lockdown and through a year where many artists have had to adapt their practice to work in alternative and creative ways and often in extremely difficult circumstances. This catalogue represents the students’ yearlong rigorous engagement with both their studio work and their documentation of work, a foundation in I.T. as it relates to visual arts practice.

Creating from a distance provides a fascinating glimpse into contemporary creative practice at CCAD in terms
of both the materials the students are working with, and conceptual ideas and issues that are most important to them during this time. This publication offers unique insights into the questions and challenges required of a year marked by extended online learning, lockdowns, quarantine, the demand for social justice, and economic uncertainty.

Creating from a distance creates a sense of hope and optimism shown in each of the students’ art work that has been generated over the course of their first year at the Crawford. Each one of the first years are a testament to all artists’ creativity in challenging times."
