Brighter Communities - National Library of Ireland - Historical Prints Exhibition and Auction

Date: 4th Dec 2019 - 18th Dec 2019
Time: 10-5pm Mon - Fri
Venue: James Barry Exhibition Centre

The National Library of Ireland has generously gifted Brighter Communities Worldwide with over 650 Photographic Prints from various exhibitions they have produced over the past number of years.

These photographs capture the life and times of Ireland through many decades and periods of history. The images are haunting, thought provoking, inspiring and intriguing and remind us of what once was. Many reveal the level of poverty, poor living conditions and challenges to health that Irish people faced throughout our history.

Brighter Communities Worldwide is offering you the unique opportunity to purchase these treasures for yourself. The money raised will support the work we do in partnership with communities in rural Kenya to improve access to Water, Health, Education and to Raise Household Incomes.

The images of Irish life through challenging times mirror the challenges faced by the people we work with where 70% rely on subsistence farming; 65% have no electricity; half have no running water and access to health facilities is very limited. Unimaginable to the Ireland of today but reminiscent of the Ireland of the early 1900’s. This is a reality that you can help to change. It is a unique opportunity for you to take home a stunning Photographic Print from the National Library of Ireland Collections as well as help improve and develop the lives of many people in rural Kenya.

Brighter Communities Worldwide is a charity with a wealth of experience building sustainable communities in East Africa. Founded as Friends of Londiani in 2002, our model creates an enabling environment for communities to realise change.

To purchase a print (sold as seen), you can email giving the number of the print and your contact details. This will be managed on a first come first served basis, with a red dot placed on any purchased or reserved piece in the gallery. A member of the Brighter Communities staff will be in the gallery on Wednesday 18th December from 10am - 2pm when you can then pay for and collect your print!
