CIT, CCAD, Media Communication Department, BA (Honours) in Visual Communications and Multimedia Final Year Student Exhibition, 2013

CIT Wandesford Quay Gallery, Cork.
Opening Night 30th May 2013 at 6.30pm

The BA (Honours) in Visual Communications and (a number of) the Multimedia graduate students from the Media Communications Department, CCAD, Cork Institute of Technology will be showcasing their work in the CIT Wandesford Quay Gallery from the 30th of May until the 8th of June.

The Visual Communications student work centers around contemporary graphic design. From promotional campaigns, typography, corporate identity, branding, packaging and illustration. Students have combined all these elements in an innovative and creative way to express strong and diverse messages.

The exhibition, called “Full Spectrum”, is a way in which the graduate students of the respective courses can showcase their talents.

Projects included in Visual Communication are; a campaign to get graduates motivated in getting a job they are qualified for; a celebration of how Irish people speak; an explanation of the Higgs Boson through design; and a  project aimed to help parents understand cyber -bullying;

In Multimedia: a real world interactive game based on Cork City Gaol; an interactive clock displaying videos of a prisoner's life, an app based tour of the Gaol, Augmented Reality Game for smartphone and an interactive holographic display.

These are just some of many projects featured at the degree show.

In conjunction with “Full Spectrum” the final year BA (Honours) in Multimedia students will host an event, which will showcase their final year projects through groups talks, digital media demos and posters. This event will take place on the 2nd floor of the Berkeley (Library) Building, CIT, Bishopstown Campus, on Friday the 17th of May from 6pm - 8pm. The theme of this year’s final year project challenged the student to enhance the visitor experience of Cork City Gaol through the use of interactive digital media.

The work on show will include a virtual tour of the Gaol running on the Web infrastructure, a tactile digital game or groups of children, an interactive shadow maker to enhance the night tours in the Gaol, a digital arts piece inspired by the use of solitary confinement throughout the history of the Gaol and many more interesting applications of digital media. On the evening the students will make a short presentation to describe their work, following this the students will stand by their work where there will have an opportunity to discuss their work in more detail.
