December Events

03 December, 2014

There are lots of festive events coming up around CIT over the coming month of December, bringing seasonal cheer to all and equally helping us reach our mince pie quota for the year.

*For those of you who are averse to mince pies, don’t worry  - we have included a “mince pie warning” as a guide.

CIT Christmas Craft Fair

Thursday 4th December  - NEXUS Hall, Student Centre, Bishopstown.

*Chance of mince pies: Extremely High, Red Alert Warning

First up is the hugely successful CIT Christmas Craft Fair that takes place this year on Thursday 4th December, Nexus Hall, Student Centre, CIT Bishopstown Campus , from 10am  - 4 pm. The brilliant, foot stomping, Roaring Forties will bring their lively mix of swing, jazz, jump and jive setting the atmosphere in the Nexus for a day of browsing the superb selection of crafts and produce on display representing Irish and local producers, craftspeople, and small businesses.
There will be over 30 Stalls including soaps, jewellery, bespoke stationary, ceramics, cards, honey and preserves, photography, art, baked goods, sports wear, textiles and even shoes! Complimentary mince pies will be served just before 1pm, while outside the lads from Volcano Pizza will be firing up their ovens, O’Conaill Chocolates will be oh so tempting and for anyone missing their Aussie Christmas, Barracuda Bar–B–Q will be there to keep you all happy.
There may even be a special someone, who despite a busy schedule, we think will fly in around 1pm or so for some last minute requests, and to officially turn on the CIT Christmas lights. There are just a few health and safety logistics to tease out concerning his landing / parking requirements…

The choir has over 30 members and last year they held a concert in the Rory Gallagher Theatre in CIT for the benefit of Cork ARC House. It was a hugely successful night and has spurred them on to repeat the experience!
For this year’s performance, donations will be taken on the door in aid of The Hope Foundation and Cork Penny Dinners.

Lifescapes –  Evelyn Egan-Rainy

James Barry Exhibition Centre  9 - 19 December.

Opening Reception Tuesday 9th December, 1pm.

Chance of Mince Pies: High (reception only)

The James Barry Exhibition Centre hopes to offer some moments of calm from the inevitable Christmas overload with Lifescapes, a solo exhibition of ceramic and mixed media works by Evelyn Egan–Rainy.
Evelyn’s latest ceramic works capture the dreamed topography of days lived on a fragile steppe and are iconic representations on white translucent paper clay. The embossed map-like depiction is delicately knit and linked with copper wire and coloured glass beads. The moments, which spill into the porous repositories of memory, are captured by the tracery of varying sized vessels. Size depicts memories large and small, significant and insignificant. These are the traces or pathways, without the defined geometry of beginning or end.
Opening Reception: Tuesday 9th December, 1 pm.  James Barry Exhibition Centre. All Welcome. The exhibition continues 9 - 20 December, Monday – Friday,  10am - 5pm.
