Classical Improvisation Concerts at CIT Cork School of Music


Tuesday, 20th February – Lunchtime Concert I – 1:10 p.m. Curtis Auditorium
A concert based on improvisation on 18th century styles styles such as toccata, French overture, and fugue. John will also perform a spontaneous sonata in 19th century style, using thematic ideas from the audience.  Time permitting, the concert may also include improvisations in jazz and contemporary styles.


Tuesday, 27th February – Lunchtime Concert II– 1:10 p.m. Curtis Auditorium
This concert will present additional forms of improvisation such as suite and chaconne.  The event will include a lecture component explaining improvisation methods, both accessible and advanced. 

Thursday, 1 March - Lunchtime Concert III– 1:10 p.m. Curtis Auditorium
This concert will feature performances from students in the improvisation course presenting forms such as figuration preludes, variations, and toccatas.  If a group of melody instrumentalists and singers takes the course, they could present divisions on a ground. 

John Mortensen will present some improvisations as a conclusion to the project.
