Pilot Plot | A publication by Sarah O'Brien launched at WCAC

20 April, 2013

The book documents O'Brien's work and traces the shifts and developments in her practice, following a period of time spent working in a studio near Castletownshend, Co.Cork (2010), leading on to a Project Studio at Temple Bar Galleries and Studios, Dublin (2011). Pilot Plot is the second in an ongoing series of artist-led publications initiated by Cork-based independent curator and artist, Stephen McGlynn, and the text produced for the publication by Dublin-based independent curator Rowan Sexton.

Sarah O’Brien, Stephen McGlynn and Rowan Sexton discussed the publication and the artist's practice in the context of different environments impacting on studio methodologies.

Rowan Sexton is an Independent curator based in Dublin. She was Associate Curator at Rubicon Gallery, Dublin, and has worked at the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), the National Gallery of Ireland and Dublin City Gallery the Hugh Lane. (She has dual academic backgrounds in both science and art; a B.Sc degree specializing in the field of biology and an M.A in curatorial studies.)

Stephen Mc Glynn is a visual artist, curator and occasional publisher based in Cork who instigated the Mapping publication series in 2010. Conceived of as a self funding publishing house, each publication in the series is funded by those that proceed it. Sarah O'Brien' Pilot Plot is the third in this series.

Sarah O’Brien, born in Cork, 1980, is an artist and independent arts educator. Pilot Plot documents the shift in landscape and practice from a studio outside Castletownshend, West Cork to Temple Bar Galleries and Studios in Dublin in 2010/2011.
